Game Concept

This side scroller forces players to think fast as they approach obstacles ahead. The player moves at a constant speed and can not slow down. The player must avoid obstacles by changing the gravity in the level allowing them to move on the ground and on the ceiling, depending on where the obstacle is. There is also a scoring system that keeps track of how far you managed to get in the level. This makes it enjoyable to play with friends and family to see who gets the highest score.

Project Purpose

The project was developed for the Ukie Game Jam. The theme that was given, was Change. With this theme in mind, my group and I decided to allow the player to change the gravity within the level. This allowed us to come up with creative ways to challenge the player and at the same time make it enjoyable to keep them engaged. The project was named Top Down. This was because it fit the theme of the game jam and also summarised the game perfectly.

Responsibilities

Within this game jam I was assigned the role of team leader, this was my second time as team leader for a game jam. Before we started I allocated roles and set out tasks for my team. I also had the role of programmer and level designer. As programmer, I worked on the UI, Scoring System and menus. I had made sure that all of the programming was finished on the first day and on the second day, I had to work on the level design to make sure that the level was balanced and challenging.
